EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION EXPERIENCE
Chief Financial Officer/Director, The Family Schools, Inc./ Brewster Day Camp, MA, 1997-present. Incorporated in 1981, and nationally accredited by numerous licensing bodies, TFS, Inc. and its subsidiary educational programs work closely with all those who "seek to raise stable and loving children in a chaotic world." Based on the principals of founder and present Executive Director, Marcia Pioppi Galazzi, the organization's mission is to Nurture and Challenge Children and Families on Cape Cod through various full and part time, year round and seasonal, offerings. Over 90 staff and 600 children a year come from 30 different United States and 14 countries to share: COURAGE, HOPE, GOOD SPIRIT, and PEACE! responsibilities included:
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise 90 staff members ages 17-65+ years
- Oversee annual enrollment and billing for 600 campers ages infant-16 years
- Co-Manage institutional budget of $1.4 million
- Supervise 16 direct reports including two assistant directors, various program heads
- Develop, implement and review all staff training and evaluation
- Responsible for all State and local licensing and national (ACA) accreditation
- Responsible for all aspects of marketing and sales year round
Project Co-Ordinator, Project New Directions, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, 1995-1997. PND, the first initiative of RISD's Center for the Advancement of Art & Design Education, provided professional and curriculum development to K-12 visual art educators in public and private schools across Rhode Island. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the three year research project investigated school-college collaboration and aimed to document change as an indicator of project success. This was the largest single grant received by RISDto date. Responsibilities included:
- Managed program budget of $265,000
- Organized and executed three professional development days and one week-long summer academy
- Supervised graduate and undergraduate students working on project
- Produced tri-annual state-wide newsletter
- Created and maintained database of all K-12 visual art educators in Rhode Island
- Corresponded with funders
- Created and maintained project office
Director of Education, Marwen, Chicago, Illinois, 1991-1994. Marwen Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, providing free, high-quality art education, career development, and college planning to Chicago's underserved students, ages five to young adult. Responsibilities included:
- Managed program budget of $310,000
- Hired and supervised 5 part-time and full-time administrators in 5 program areas
- Hired and managed 25 part-time Artist-Teachers
- Developed and facilitated all programs and curriculum
- Created teacher policies and new 75 page Artist-Teacher Handbook
- Worked closely with Chairman, Executive Director, and Director of Development to create long- range and short-term strategic goals achievable at 3, 5, and 10 year institutional bench marks
Trip Leader, Putney Student Travel, Putney, Vermont, 1989, 1991. Two Trips:
- Co-Led 18 high school students, 42 day hiking and cycling trip through France, Holland, and England.
- Co-Led 14 high school students, 33 day bicycle camping trip through Canada
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Adjunct Faculty Member of Middle School Art Department, The Wheeler School, Providence, RI 2007-2008. Taught 90 minute scope and sequence 2 dimential art lesson to groups of 15 middle school children one day a week for three consecutive 10 week sessions.
Guest Lecturer, The Wheeler School and Portsmouth High School, Rhode Island, 2006, 2007. Conducted a one hour slide lecture,"How I Make, What I Make," followed by a two hour demonstration and open studio assignment, "Portraits of the Soul: Painting with Encaustic." Students completed work in class.
Instructor, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, Rhode Island, 1996. Taught course, Artist-Teacher in the School; Developed curriculum and instructed 16 undergraduate students; Placed students in assisting teaching roles in 16 different art classrooms across state of RI.
