In this monotype series, Loose Ends, I visually allude to the power of human relationships, the passage of time, and my place within that continuum. After creating multiple individual encaustic monotypes on a heated plate, I thoughtfully paired several transparent images. I then sewed together the various pieces of Japanese rice and cypress bark papers to create the finished piece comprised of multiple parts. When hung away from the wall, the delicate papers move gently in the air which makes space between the layers of imagery. The subtle monochromatic color relationships , as well as the physical layering, become a metaphor for human connections and memories held together over time.
